Being Black In Australia
This July, we are giving voice to the contributions and lived experiences of Black artists & creators working in the Australian music scene for BIPOC Mental Health Month. We have partnered with Black Music Alliance Australia for our next On My Mind event, ‘Being Black in Australian Music’ happening live via Zoom on Thursday 28 July from 12.45pm (AEST).
In this session, Support Act is celebrating the courageous, diverse, and groundbreaking talent of Black Aussie artists, and exploring how cultural and societal norms, stigma, expectations, and prejudice intersect to impact mental health, identity, music, and creativity.
Joining us on the panel is artist/emcee N’fa Jones, singer/songwriter Thando Sikwila, Manager and Co-Founder of db music Zig Annor, joined by Psychotherapist Dr. Kathomi Gatwiri and facilitated by Psychologist Rashida Dungarwalla.
On My Mind is a monthly event exploring mental health and wellbeing for those who are doing life in the music industry. Attendees are invited into candid conversations surrounding important and provocative topics that impact the way we live, work, and thrive. Previous topics have included managing anxiety and depression, the importance of self-care, conflict resolution, creativity, and motivation.
On My Mind is proudly supported by Headspace.
